Over 3 million visits to Philadelphia’s National Parks in 2023
PHILADELPHIA — This week the National Park Service announced that 400 national parks reported a total of 325.5 million visits in 2023, an increase of 13 million or 4% over 2022.
At Independence National Historical Park visitation numbers for 2023 reached 3,042,598, a 13% increase over 2022. “Although not back to pre-pandemic levels, visitation to the park is on the rise and expected to continue to increase as we head towards the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.” said Superintendent Steve Sims. “We have a lot of significant infrastructure projects in the works for the 250th and we look forward to showcasing the birthplace of America.” Noteworthy projects for 2026 include the rehabilitation of the First Bank of the United States and the Declaration House, the site where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.
Also in Philadelphia, 2023 visitation at Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site and Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial increased by 44% and 32% respectively over 2022. Visitation statistics are not tracked at Gloria Dei Church National Historic Site.
More data on park visitation, including how these numbers are calculated, is available on the NPS Visitor Use Statistics website (https://irma.nps.gov/Stats/).
